Why London Homeowners Choose Polished Concrete

London's housing stock creates a unique set of flooring challenges — Victorian and Edwardian terraces, Georgian townhouses, converted warehouses, basement extensions, and ultra-modern new builds all living side by side. Polished concrete handles all of them.

  • No rip-out required — our overlay goes over your existing subfloor. No skips, no disposal costs, none of the structural disruption that London basements and terraces can't afford.
  • Period-property friendly — 5mm add to existing floor height, making our overlays viable in Victorian and Edwardian terraces where floor-to-ceiling height is precious.
  • Underfloor heating compatible — polished concrete has excellent thermal conductivity. It's the ideal pairing with the UFH systems common in London kitchen extensions and basement conversions.
  • Seamless and hygienic — no grout lines, no joins, no places for London city dirt and dust to accumulate. One continuous surface from wall to wall.
  • Built for London life — high foot traffic, dogs, children, bikes being wheeled through hallways. Polished concrete is harder than tiles and lasts decades without fading or lifting.
  • Transformative aesthetics — the industrial-luxury look that defines contemporary London interiors. Open-plan kitchens, basement conversions, rear extensions, and loft apartments all benefit enormously.

Our Polished Concrete Floor Services in London

Polished Concrete Overlay

Our most popular London service. A 5–8mm cementitious overlay is applied over your existing floor — tiles, screeds, concrete slabs, or wooden subfloors (with prep). Diamond-ground to a smooth, seamless finish, then densified and sealed. The result is a genuinely polished concrete surface that looks structural but installs in days, not weeks.

Ideal for: kitchen-diner extensions, open-plan ground floors, hallways, basement conversions, loft apartments, bathroom floors and walls.

Microcement Floors London

Microcement is a polymer-modified cement coating applied at just 2–3mm. Where even our standard overlay is too thick — think refurbished bathrooms, wet rooms, shower enclosures, and kitchen surfaces — microcement is the solution. Waterproof, seamless, and available in 60+ colours.

Particularly popular in North London Victorian terraces where bathroom floor heights are critical, and in Shoreditch and Hackney rental conversions where a premium wet room finish is expected.

We regularly work in listed buildings, occupied offices, and hospitality environments with night-and-weekend installation schedules.

The Installation Process

Every London job follows the same quality-controlled process — whether it's a 15m² bathroom in Brixton or a 500m² restaurant in Shoreditch.

  1. Site survey — we assess your existing floor, subfloor condition, heating setup, and access logistics (critical in London). Free, no obligation.
  2. Subfloor preparation — grinding, levelling, and priming the base to accept the overlay. Any cracks or weak spots are addressed at this stage.
  3. Overlay application — the cementitious compound is applied to the specified depth, feathered at edges and transitions.
  4. Scratch coat and keying — a scratch layer creates the mechanical bond for the finish coat.
  5. Finish coat — the final layer is applied flat and true, setting the surface for grinding.
  6. Diamond grinding — progressively finer diamond pads refine the surface from coarse aggregate exposure down to your specified finish level.
  7. Densification and sealing — a lithium silicate densifier hardens the surface; a topcoat sealer (matte, satin, or gloss) protects it. Floor is ready for light use within 24 hours.

  • Loft apartments — Hackney, Shoreditch, Bermondsey, and Vauxhall conversions where the industrial aesthetic is intentional and integral.
  • Side-return extensions — narrow, tricky spaces that benefit from the seamless, light-reflecting qualities of polished concrete.

Frequently Asked Questions — Polished Concrete Floors London

How much does polished concrete flooring cost in London?

Polished concrete overlay in London typically costs £65–£100/m² depending on finish level, area size, and location. Central London jobs carry a small premium due to access and logistics. Microcement runs £70–£90/m². New structural concrete starts at £100/m². All site surveys and quotes are free.

Can you install polished concrete in a Victorian terrace?

Yes — one of our most common London jobs. Our 5–8mm overlay adds minimal height, suitable for Victorian and Edwardian terraces. We work over original quarry tiles, suspended timber floors (with ply base), or screeds. No rip-out required in most cases.

How long does installation take?

Most London residential jobs take 3–5 days. A standard 40–60m² open-plan kitchen-diner is typically done in 4 days. Light use is possible within 24–48 hours of the final seal coat.

Is polished concrete suitable for London basement conversions?

Ideal for it. We work directly off the new structural slab in most basement digs — polishing and sealing to your specified finish. Low-profile install doesn't compromise ceiling height.

Do you cover all London boroughs?

All 32. Based in Archway (N19), we work from Richmond to Stratford, Enfield to Croydon. No area is out of range.

What's the difference between polished concrete and microcement?

Polished concrete overlay (5–8mm) is diamond-ground to a hard, stone-like finish with visible aggregate. Microcement (2–3mm) is hand-applied and sealed — smoother, suited to bathrooms and wet rooms. Both are seamless. We offer both and can advise which suits your project.

Is polished concrete compatible with underfloor heating?

Yes — one of the best pairings. Polished concrete conducts heat quickly and evenly. We regularly install over both water and electric UFH in London homes, especially kitchen extensions and basement conversions.

Do you work in listed buildings and conservation areas?

Yes. Our thin-overlay approach minimises floor height change and is suitable for Grade II listed properties. We've worked with historic buildings consultants and conservation officers across Central London.
